Architectural Design workshops
In September and October 2017 47 local architects ran workshops to 2500 children in Years 5 and 6 at 50 primary schools across Yorkshire and the North East.
The workshops introduced children to the role of the architect, explained what architects do, and introduced them to the concept of design by the introduction of a live design project. All discussed what a folly is, and were encouraged to use their imagination to design a new folly for Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. The brief was very wide and the main requirement was for it to be silly and to make people smile!
Children then developed their designs further at school and at home, and over 1700 of them entered the competition.
